Intellectual Property Society
Brief Introduction
China Intellectual
Property Society (hereinafter CIPS) is a national public-beneficial
academic association supervised by the State Intellectual Property
Office of People’s Republic of China. It is legitimately registered
and composed of individuals and units concerned in Intellectual Property
(hereinafter IP).
It is one of
the important social organizations, which endeavors to promote the IP cause
and accelerate the progress of economic development.
CIPS consists of Patent Committee, Sub-Society
of Exported Commodity Trademark, and Enterprises Service Committee.
China Intellectual
Property Society once called China Industrial Property Society. On
December 12,1984, the Preparatory Committee of Industrial Property
Society was established by Chinese Patent Office, China Industrial Property Society was formally founded on
March 29,1985.On November 30,1990, its name was changed into China
Intellectual Property Society, which is a national association as legal
person established with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs
P.R.C.
Purpose
The purpose of the CIPS is to: adhere the honest scientific method
and attitude;
unite all the people engaged in IP circle from
the Ministries
with the function of IP administration, judges, science and technology,
education, academia and enterprises; carry out academic research and exchange on
IP; and provide valuable views and proposes to further establish and improve IP system.
CIPS is always ready to making its own contribution to further improve
and enhance the IP legislation, enforcement, implementation, protection
and administration in
China.
Organization Chart
The highest
authority of CIPS is the National Representative Assembly, which meets
every 4 years. Members of the Assembly are elected through democratic
consultation by various local societies and the societies in various
departments and organizations. The Assembly is entitled to make rules
and regulation, vote in the composition of Executive
Council, and to make decisions on major issues.
In May 2004, the
Fourth National Representative Assembly of CIPS met in Beijing. The
Fourth executive council was elected with 203 council members and 62 standing
council members. Mr. Ren Jianxin, Mr. Zhou Guangzhao and Mrs. Jiang Ying were
elected as honorable Chairmen of the Executive Council. Mr. Yang Zhengwu was elected
as Chairman of the Executive Council. Moreover, Mr.Ding Zhongze and other 18 Vice
Chairmen were elected. Mr. Zhao Chunshan was elected
as Secretary General, and 4 Vice Secretary
General were elected, including Mr. Ma Xiushan.
Main Business
The
Main business of the Society includes: carrying out disseminating and popularizing IP law,
as well as the training of professional;
offering
consultation service for solving the dissension and conflict of
intellectual property; actively carrying out international and regional
exchanges and cooperation of IP.
Any individual and group devoting and caring IP cause or wishing to involve in the protection of IP can become membership of CIPS.
